Message to Delegates

Thank you for participating in the2010 National General Assembly of Local Government (NGA) in Canberra, the biggest event on local government's calendar. This year, ALGA launched several documents: a 10-Point election document, a National Local Roads and Transport Policy, a Women in Politics book and ‘Stimulating Local Economies' which highlights case studies from the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program. These are all available on the ALGA website at www.alga.asn.au

In addition, there were a series of policy and funding announcements culminating in a $100 million boost in funding for the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program by the Prime Minister on Friday. The Government also announced $250,000 in funding to assist ALGA to raise the profile of constitutional recognition of local government and the Opposition announced a funding commitment for Bridges.

ALGA is keen to ensure that the NGA continues to meet your expectations and so we seek your feedback on this year's NGA. An online evaluation survey is available here and I would encourage you to complete it so we can make next year's NGA even better. As an incentive, participants who complete the survey by Friday 9 July will go into a draw to win a prize.

A comprehensive wrap-up of the NGA is available in the 21 June edition of ALGA News which can be accessed here and speeches presented to the NGA and documents launched during the NGA are being uploaded to our website and are available through the "speeches" button on this page.

I hope you enjoyed this year's NGA and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Regards

Geoff Lake
